The world is changing, these days the best way to support and grow your blog is to be your own publicist. This article will discuss a few different ways you can do begin to do just that.
- Value Generation
- Word Of Mouth
- Search Engine Optimization
- Your Domain Name
- Participation and Fellowship
- Guest Blogging
Value Generation
First and foremost, the best thing you can do to publicize your blog is to create legitimate value through your content.
- Is your content informative?
- Is it surprising, entertaining?
- Is it memorable?
- Do you bring forward high quality information worth sharing?
This list is not exhaustive, but you can be sure that your content must be achieving at least some of these goals in order for your publicizing efforts to not be a waste. Imagine you refer someone to your blog, and he actually goes there, but he finds your content is not worth his time. Any effort you have put into publicizing your blog will not pay off unless the content is good.
Word Of Mouth
If you start talking about your blog, other people with start talking about, and word will spread. Likewise, if your content is sufficiently memorable, someone will be exposed to it, remember it later, and share the information with someone else. These are both forms of word of mouth advertising.
Is your content sufficiently memorable to warrant a mention?
Memory works in a few counter-intuitive ways you might not suspect. Typically, after someone is exposed to your content it will create a sort of bread crumb trail in the reader’s memory. They might not act on that just yet, but it will remain. When something triggers the memory, the reader will follow the bread crumb trail back to the information they learned from your content. And, one hopes, they will mention your content to others when those memories are triggered.
Search Engine Optimization
Search engine optimization can seem like a daunting process. But if you start small, and set up a system, you will start to see your content performing better in search engines. There is so much content on the Internet already that it grows increasingly difficult to rank for certain high volume keyword search queries. But, if your search term is unique, and you are a leader in your field, your chances are greatly improved.

Your Domain Name
Your domain name is the pillar upon which your whole Internet marketing efforts rest. At various points along the journey, whether that’s an email subscription or a purchase, your target is going to land on your website.
Your domain is also an easy way for people to associate you with your website. This is especially true if you are hoping to capture some honest word-of-mouth traction. If you have a domain that is memory glue, you will start to notice some organic traffic building up on your site.
Participation and Fellowship
It might seem obvious, but in order to publicize your blog you must go to the public. Check out local meetups, networks, or other social gatherings. Most business networking meetups might give you an opportunity to give a presentation, present some information about what you’re working on, or just give you a chance to share your blog title and domain. You might get a few lifelong readers from these simple community engagements.
Guest Blogging
When you feel comfortable in your blog-writing skills (after writing about 100 posts or so) you might want to approach a popular blog about an opportunity to write for them as a guest. Guest blogging is a great way to get your name out to a larger audience and get a link back to your site.
