How have you enjoyed working in the web hosting industry since starting at InMotion Hosting?
Before working at InMotion Hosting, I actually worked for about a year at another hosting company. Their infrastructure had quite a few problems, and so I got first hand experience on how not to run a web hosting company. When I came to InMotion Hosting, I was immediately surprised at how well everything was setup, and how smoothly operations ran. I’ve really enjoyed seeing first hand how putting the customer first helps a company profit and grow.
What is your current role at InMotion Hosting? What do you like most about it?
My current role with InMotion Hosting is Development Lead for the Product Development department. What I like most is the opportunity to work on all aspects of a product, not just development. Besides simply writing code, I get the opportunity to work on marketing and support. There’s a lot of potential in making our products very successful, and taking part in all aspects really helps to see the big picture and plan ahead.
What position did you start in with IMH? Tell us about your career growth since then.
I started at IMH in 2007 as a Tier1 in support. I moved on to Tier2 support, which gave me the opportunity to learn more about keeping servers running well, setting up and configuring VPS’s, and more. After that, I helped start the Training Department. I eventually moved on the helping start the Customer Community department, which focuses on writing great support tutorials for the website. Then, a little over 5 years ago, I was asked to help start the Product Development department, where our focus was on creating solutions to help WordPress users build and maintain WordPress websites.
Coolest gadget you own, want to own or have read about?
I’d like to get my hands on a nice oculus rift. I’m very interesting in VR and the possibilities that are there.
What would you like to tell us about yourself?
I feel very lucky to have joined InMotion Hosting. I was at the right time at the right place. It’s been rewarding to watch a small company grow to as big as it is today, and it’s been really fun learning and helping out with that growth wherever I can.
How have you used our Professional Development Program?
I attended a 2 day Agile / Scrum training session. It taught us a lot about how things should be done, “by the book”. We don’t run 100% agile, but we’ve been able to take pieces of what we’ve learned and apply it to our methods.
