Please note this is a “work in progress” article as there are many changes that we are evaluating and understand their impacts. However, this is great news so we want to share this.
- PHP 7.4 No Longer Supported – PHP 8.2 and PHP 8.1 Recommended
- New versions of Redis, MariaDB, and OpenSearch

PHP 7.4 Support is Gone – Go to PHP 8+
PHP 8 came with many improvements but not all major php-based systems, namely WordPress, have made the transition to PHP 8 by default. PHP 7.4 is actually past its EOL and officially is not being patched. Magento has made the leap and you should take advantage of it!
If you are just moving into your shared hosting, VPS hosting, or dedicated server and it did not automatically come with PHP 8+ as the default, you can change your PHP version. If you are already hosted with us, web hosting for Magento Open Source 2.4.6 is wise but obviously needs to be done with care.
Next up we will look at Redis, OpenSearch, MariaDB 10.4, new features in the software, and new security recommendations. We will also spend some time on the difference between Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 and features exclusive to the paid version versus Magento Open Source 2.4.6.
For additional information, read the official release notes on Adobe Commerce 2.4.6 and Magento Open Source 2.4.6.
