Joomla 2.5 has reached its end of life as for 12/31/2014. Please be advised this may be a security risk to your website. You can view more information about the end of life here.
So far in this Joomla 2.5 ACL tutorial series, we have created a Teachers user group and allowed this user group the ability to write, edit, and delete in the Online Courses article category. In this tutorial, we’ll show you the process of how a user group can write and submit articles from the front end.
Writing articles from the front end in Joomla 2.5:
- Using the login form on your front end, log into the Joomla 2.5 site. In our example, we logged in as the ivana_teach user.
- Once the user is logged in, a User Menu should appear. The user should then click Submit an Article
- The user will then see an article submission form. Fill out the details of the article. Under the Publishing heading, be sure to select the appropriate category. In our testing, Ivana Teach is writing an article under the Online Courses category.
- Click the Save button. You will then see a Article successfully submitted message.
At this time, you have successfully published an article from the front end!
Hello, I have an issue regarding the visibility of articles after publication. I don’t have the message “Article succesfully submitted”, but I have the article in backend view. It seems like the issue is between “multicategories” and “Category” lost correspondance. Could you help me? Many thanks.
I looked everywhere in the forums but nobody has mentioned the issue that I am facing! No matter with what user I login in the front-end, when I click ‘create article’ option and press button – ‘publishing’ , I am unable to see any category, the category list is all blank. Please help
Hello Rash,
What version of Joomla are you using? Are you hosting with InMotion? It’s possible that the database is corrupt. Make sure to do a database check and repair, then try logging in again. If you’re just starting with your joomla site, then it might be require a re-installation or restoration of a backup if you continue to have problems with basic functions within Joomla.
If you have any further questions, please let us know.

Hello Kent,
Thanks for the comment. We understand that article is old. Some people still use Joomla 2.5, so the material is here for reference. Here’s a link for the Joomla 3 tutorials.

i want to link my user login to a page where article can be edited
I made a copy of publisher user group. Global and user settings are the same. For the global article catgory permissions I changed settings for Edit and Edit state to Denied in my new user gruop. And when I try to allow permissons to a specific article catgory the caluculated setting say “locked” for the ones I changed at global level. And can not be changed…
Matt
Hello Matt,
Sorry for the confusion. Based on what you just said the Global Article Category Permissions are DENIED. So, because you have denied those permissions, the “specific article category category” permissions cannot be changed. When you lock them down at the global level, then they cannot be changed underneath.
I hope that helps to clarify the issue. Please let us know if you have any further questions.
Regards,
Arnel C.
The Category Persmisisons for the user group I like to allow edit permissions for look like this. The Global Category Persmisisons I set to Denied for this group. I have tried o recreate the settings table below:
Action Select New setting Calculated setting
Create Inherited Allowed
Delete Inherited Not Allowed
Edit Allowed Conflict Not Allowed (Locked)
Edit state Allowed Conflict Not Allowed (Locked)
Edit Own Allowed Allowed
Regards
Matt
Could you provide me with the permissions and groups that you currently have set?
This don’t seem to work for me. It’s says its a conflict and not allowed. For me to make it work I have to restrict the access for all other categories the user don’t should access/edit. And I have many categories and planned to add a couple of user groups.
Have to solve it?
Matt
Could you provide me with the specific error message that you are getting?
hi
thanks for this.
i need to access restricted user to category.
i want do access submit to one only category.
please tell solution for this.
thanks
To do so, you would create a new permissions group for that user, adjust the permissions for that group within the category settings page.
