Setting Index and Follow settings in Joomla 3.1

The next Joomla 3.0 Metadata setting we will look at is the Robots setting.

This setting will allow you to set the meta robots tag, which controls how search engines will crawl and index each of your pages.

Example meta robots tag:

<meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />

To change your Robots settings in Joomla 3.0

  1. Log into the Joomla 3.0 admin dashboard
  2. In the left menu, click the Global Configuration link
  3. Under the Site tab, find the Robots setting (refer to the screenshot at the top of this page)

    The following settings are available:

    OptionResulting meta tag
    Index, FollowNo robots meta tag is added.
    No index, follow
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex, follow" />
    Index, No follow
    <meta name="robots" content="index, nofollow" />
    No index, no follow
    <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" />

    What does each setting mean?

    ValueResult
    indexTells a search engine whether or not you want them to index the contents of this page.
    followTells a search engine whether or not you want them to follow and crawl the links on this page.

    After making your desired change, click the Save button at the top left of the page.
