In the early days of the internet, search engines heavily relied on meta keywords and other meta settings in order to learn what a particular website was about. As the years have gone by, search engines have become more intelligent and instead use different methods to identify the subject matter of a website. While meta keywords are really no longer used by most search engines, Joomla 3.0 still allows you to set these values. In this Joomla 3.0 tutorial, we’ll show you how to change your site’s meta keywords.
To set your Joomla 3.0 site’s meta keywords:
- Log into your Joomla 3.0 Dashboard
- In the left menu, click the Global Configuration link (which can be found under the SYSTEM heading)
- Ensure you are on the Site tab by clicking Site
- Towards the bottom of the page, find the Site Meta Keywords setting under the Metadata Settings heading. Joomla suggests the following:Site Meta Description
Enter the keywords and phrases that best describe you Web site. Separate keywords and phrases with a comma. In our testing, we set the meta description to the following:
joomla 3.0 testing, joomla 3.0, joomla technical support
After entering your Site Meta Keywords, click Save in the top left menu. Visit your site’s homepage and look at the HTML source code. You can see below how our meta keywords are used:
<meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="keywords" content="joomla 3.0 testing, joomla 3.0, joomla technical support" /> <meta name="description" content="This is my website's SITE META DESCRIPTION." /> <meta name="generator" content="Joomla! - Open Source Content Management" />
Please note!
When writing articles in Joomla 3.0, the meta keywords you set in this tutorial will show unless you set specific meta keywords for that article.
