This article describes how to use Web Hosting Manager (WHM) to determine how many cPanel accounts you are using. It also covers how to view bandwidth and disk usage for each cPanel account. That way, you can ascertain how many cPanel accounts you need. Keep in mind that you can limit the privileges a reseller has within WHM.
Note that cPanel creation is no longer unlimited. For more information, please see cPanel Pricing Changes. You can see the pricing that now applies to cPanel licenses. To learn more about this change, please see our FAQ on cPanel Pricing Changes.
How Many cPanel Accounts Do I Have?
Recently, cPanel changed its licensing fees to be per-user based. Since this has been done, it is important for you to understand how to determine how many cPanel accounts you need to pay for. Because why would you want to pay for something you don’t need? Read on to learn more about how you can audit your cPanel accounts.
Using WHM with Root Access
If you are subscribed to a Dedicated server or VPS hosting plan, you have the ability to obtain root access. This access is elevated to the server level access, rather than a reseller’s limited access.
- Log into WHM as root.
NOTE: If you log into WHM using a reseller account, you will only see the accounts owned by that user. To see all the cPanel users in WHM, you must use the root user login details.
- Navigate to the list of accounts.
NOTE: You can click on List Accounts from the Manage Your Accounts page. Otherwise, type “list accounts” into the search field on the left and then click on List Accounts under the Account Information heading.
Using WHM with Reseller Access
If you have subscribed to a Reseller hosting plan, then your main cPanel account has reseller level privileges, which grants you access to WHM. Reseller access allows you to view all your cPanel child accounts from within WHM.
- Log into WHM using your reseller (main cPanel) account.
- Navigate to the list of accounts.
NOTE: You can click on List Accounts from the Manage Your Accounts page. Otherwise, type “list accounts” into the search field on the left and then click on List Accounts under the Account Information heading.
Now that you know how to review the number of cPanel accounts you are using, you will be able to determine how many cPanel accounts you need.
How Many cPanel Accounts Do I Need?
Since you know how to see all of your cPanel users in WHM, you can view each account’s bandwidth and disk usage. You can also log into each cPanel account from WHM. This access is helpful because you can easily and quickly review every cPanel user’s content to determine if that account is necessary.
Congratulations, now you know how to see how many cPanel accounts you have. If you need to remove any, you can learn how to consolidate and then remove them.
