You can create data backups at every level of web hosting – Webhost Manager (WHM) on VPS Hosting, cPanel on all Shared Hosting plans, and many popular content management systems (CMSs) including WordPress and OpenCart 3.0.
Users with Webmail access, but not cPanel, should know how – and be encouraged – to save their data in the worst case of a hack. Below we’ll export emails for an email account in Horde.
Backup Emails
- Log into Webmail using Horde.
Warning: If you log into Roundcube, you’ll need to click your email address in the upper corner, then Horde.
- Right-click Inbox and click Export emails in Inbox, Drafts, Sent, and their subfolders.
- Choose to download a standard or Zip compressed MBOX file and click OK.
- Save the file.
You can also take notes with Horde.

Does this process export emails in user-created folders outside of Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Spam, & Trash? I have all of my emails moved out of the Inbox and into folders I’ve created.
This only exports the folder that you right-click in Step 2 above. So, you will need to export each folder individually. Another option is to use a 3rd party client such as Thunderbird to transfer/copy emails.
