How to Login to SquirrelMail

SquirrelMail is no longer included in cPanel by default. It reached its end of life in 2013. InMotion Hosting has disabled SquirrelMail from Webmail but you can still install and use it for managing email if needed.

SquirrelMail is one of the three webmail interfaces that are offered within your cPanel. This article will guide you on how to log into the SquirrelMail interface and what you should expect to see your first time.

Logging into SquirrelMail

  1. Start by logging into your webmail. You can get to the webmail login by using the format example.com/webmail in your browser’s address bar. Be sure to replace example.com with your own domain name.

  2. Click on the SquirrelMail option from the selection of interfaces.

  3. The first time you sign into SquirrelMail you will be asked to enter some additional information. Enter what you wish and then click on any of the Submit buttons to save.

    1. Hello,

Squirrelmail had been scheduled to be removed from cPanel for awhile now because they were no longer updating it. You can use the other webmail clients or you can go to Softaculous to re-install Squirrelmail. Just be aware that the developers of Squirrel Mail are no longer keeping the product up-to-date.

  1. Hi,

    1. Hello Suzan,

Thanks for the question about adding a shortcut to your iPhone or to your computer desktop. First, it’s really not an easy thing to just add a website shortcut on the iPhone UNLESS you use the option within Safari. You can see how to do that by looking at these instructions. Basically, it lets you save a page directly to the iOS screen. The page will always be a login screen AND you must have Javascript enabled (Settings>Safari>Advanced>Javascript – You have turn slider on). Before you save it, you would need to designate your default webmail application. This is done when you log in to webmail and then click on your login username in the top right corner and then select a default webmail application out of the three available.

If you’re not using an iPhone, then you should see this post, though it includes directions for both types. As with the iPhone, you will need to make sure that Javascript is allowed for the page.

As for the desktop shortcut, it depends on your operating system. In Windows, you can right-click and create the shortcut by using the URL to Webmail. In Mac OSX (I tried this on the newest OS – Mojave), you need to left-click on the left portion of the address bar, hold it down and then drag to your screen. You will need to make sure that you can see the desktop background and the URL in the browser.

You can also setup and download the Squirrelmail desktop application. You would have to configure to use your mail server settings. You can find the mail configuration settings by logging into webmail, then clicking on your login name in the top right corner and clicking on Configure Mail Client.

Sorry, it’s not a straightforward answer – I know you mentioned you’re new at this. However, check out the options and let us know if you have any questions.

      Kindest regards,
      Arnel C.

    1. This is an optional parameter. By default an email client will the “From” address for replies. This field allows you to set a custom email address that will receive replies.

    1. Hello Ani,

Squirrelmail is one mail client that you can use. You’re not restricted to using only the one. All of them have the same limitations as they are based on the actual account. For more information, please read Email Marketing 101.

If you have any further questions or comments, please let us know.

    1. Try clearing the cache and cookies on all browsers having the issue. If it is still occurring, contact the Live Support so they can view the live server log as you attempt to log in to see if there is any specific error message that is detected.

  5. Hi,

The log in on squirrel mail on my laptop doesn’t work. I tried different browers, and still nothing is happening… The login works on different laptops than mine and on my phone as well. What is the solution?

    Thank you

    Hela

    1. Are you getting a specific error message? Also, if it works on other devices it sounds as if it’s an issue with the laptop itself.

    1. You should be able to add the additional emails to the “cc” (carbon copy) or “bcc” (blind carbon copy) fields.

      Thank you,
      John-Paul
