How to Whitelist or Blacklist in SpamExperts Updated on May 13, 2024 by Scott Mitchell 1 Minutes, 55 Seconds to Read One of the most common tasks in a spam prevention program is whitelisting and blacklisting email addresses or domains. This helps you tailor spam monitoring programs such as SpamExperts to allow or deny specific domains or email addresses. We will go over how to whitelist or blacklist senders and recipients in your SpamExperts control panel. Whitelisting Senders in SpamExperts Any sender in this list will not be checked for spam and automatically allowed through to any recipient on the account. Log into SpamExperts. Click on the Sender whitelist icon. Locate the Whitelist a sender section and enter either a single domain name ([email protected]), an entire domain (example.com) or an entire TLD (*.com) to whitelist in the Sender field. Click on the Add button. The new item will appear in the whitelisted sender list above. Whitelisting Recipients in SpamExperts Any recipient on this list will receive email without it being checked for spam. Log into your SpamExperts account. Click on the Recipient whitelist icon. Locate the Whitelist a recipient area and enter the email address you wish to whitelist in the Email address field. This is only recommended for special use addresses such as postmaster@ or abuse@. Click the Add button. The newly added recipient will appear in the whitelisted recipient list above. Blacklisting Senders in SpamExperts Any sender on this list will automatically have their email rejected and sent back with a 5## SMTP error. Log into your SpamExperts dashboard. Click on the Sender blacklist icon. Find the Sender blacklist section and enter either a single domain name ([email protected]), an entire domain (example.com) or an entire TLD (*.com) to blacklist in the Sender field. Click on the Add button. The newly sender will now appear in the blacklisted sender list above. Blacklisting Recipients in SpamExperts Any recipient on this list will have all email sent to it automatically rejected and sent back with a 5## SMTP error. Log into SpamExperts. Click on the Recipient blacklist icon. Locate the Blacklist a recipient area and enter the email address you wish to blacklist in the Email address field. This is only recommended for special use addresses that you wish to never receive any email. Click the Add button. The newly added recipient will appear in the blacklisted recipient list above. We are receiving e-mails masquerading as coming from a legitimate user. Can we have the system quarantine anything from a specific user address to let us check it by previewing it before we release it to the recipient(s) ?
This is called email spoofing. I would recommend setting up SPF records and also DMARC Records – both of these methods work against email spoofing.
Hello, what happens if someone is placed on both the whitelist and blacklist? I would like to blacklist a Top-Level Domain (ie. all of .us) but also whitelist a particular safe domain address (ie. safesender.us). Would this work as intended?
Theoretically, yes that should work as intended. Although I have never tried the scenario you described exactly, the whitelist rules will have higher priority than the blacklist rules. I do recommend testing this to be sure though!
