Upgrade git version on a shared hosting account

Hi, I've noticed that git is installed, but I require a more up-to-date version of git. Currently on server is version 1.7.1 and I need a version >1.7.6 to overcome another problem I am experiencing (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/6775242/how-can-i-recover-from-fatal-out-of-memory-mmap-failed-cannot-allocate-memor).

Please can you upgrade my version of git or tell me how I can do it?

P.S. - I am following the TOS because git is only used to host my website and push backups to a repo hosted elsewhere (confirmed as ok here: https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/community-support/tools/can-i-host-a-limitedaccess-git-repository)

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hello,

Thanks for asking about upgrading GIT on your shared server a result of the issue that you are facing. Unfortunately, the version of GIT is set server-wide for a shared server. If you are on a VPS or Dedicated server, then GIT could be updated for your specific account. GIT cannot be updated on the shared server unless it were upgraded for all accounts on the server.

Kindest regards,
