configuring email on iPhone

i followed your step by step instructions for configuring your iphone for email. i keep getting a warning screen saying "cannot get Mail" below that it says "the user name or password is incorrect". ive made sure my password is correct, so where do i find what my username is, or is there anything else i could have wrong to get that warning?
