How can I create a new website to replace an existing one?

I currently have a website (hosted by the web developer that built it) but I want to build a new website in Wordpress using the Divi theme so that I can learn to do it myself. I have installed Wordpress at mydomain.com/wp-admin but I cannot access it, I believe because a website already exists under that name (the original site).

What I want to do is build a new website in Wordpress and then replace the existing one. Is there a way I can build the website first under a different name and then when it's ready to publish use my current domain?

I don't want my current site to be affected in the meantime. Any help would be much appreciated, Thanks.

Hello, Thank you for your question on creating a development site to eventually replace your current site. I do see that your current site is pointed to one host while you wish to build a site on this hosting platform. I see the WordPress installed here. The issue you have with logging in is due to the domain being pointed to the current host. The best way to do this is for you to create a 'hosts file modification' on your local machine. This means you can control where your computer looks for your website without any effect on the outside world. The rest of the world will always see the current version. The reason this is best is because you can set the development site up exactly as it will be seen when you point the domain. This way you do not have to go back and make any changes with settings. You can always simply open up the hosts file and comment out or remove the line to point back to the current host. This way you can keep tabs on both your development and live site as you wish. This is the method most often used by developers to prevent any unforeseen changes that may need to be made later. Kindest Regards, Scott M
