Maintenance mode during DNS change?

I am helping a client transfer her 2 websites to InMotion. The transfer is complete and the sites work, so now we need to contact the old host who is the domain registrar (a one-guy reseller) to change the DNS. We have put in the request and are now waiting on his response. During this process, do her sites need to be in maintenance mode?

Hello,

Thank you for your question regarding DNS changes. Her sites do not need to be in maintenance mode as after the domain propagates after 4-24 hours then the domain will just resolve to the new server.
