Transfer my hosting/domain and built a new WP site

I would like to transfer hosting and domain registrar to Inmotion. I would like to built a new website on WP (I am a beginner on WP, did some work on localhost already). The transfer should go smooth and quickly, meaning our old website staying up until the new WP website is ready. Please also advise how to maintain our ranking on search engines.

If you are transferring your domain for your working site and you want to maintain the current search engine rankings, then you should first make sure to have the site running on your old site until you can get it running on your new site. Next, once the site has been transferred to us, and you know it's running okay, change the name servers to point to our hosting service. You can see more information on the change of your name servers here. Once you make the transfer, then you may need to add 301 permanent re-directs for anything referencing your old domain. This will help keep your search engine rankings as they keep your site referenced to the right location. You should also go into Google Web Master tools and use the change of address tool.
