How do I revise an existing site without taking it down?

I am rebuilding a site for a friend. Do I need to create a sub domain in c-panel to rebuild the existing site in the background? I don't want the site to go don't down while I build a new one. Thanks for helping!

Good morning,

Thanks for your question about setting up a new site while not taking down your old website. Yes, you could set up a subdomain or you can even just do it in a subfolder as well. While a subdomain is new.yourdomain.com a subfolder would be yourdomain.com/new/. The upside to using a subfolder is you do not have to wait for DNS to propagate like you would for a subdomain.
