Moving Wordpress from subfolder to root

Is it better to move the development site files (currently residing in a sub folder) to the root or point the domain name to the sub folder? It seems easier to point the domain but if it's better to move the site, what is the best way to do that?

In a cPanel hosting service, it is typical (but not necessary) for the primary domain to have the files and folders saved in the root directory (public_html).
