how do i know if i changed my name servers correctly?a

i do not know if i changed my name servers correctly.  i do not know if they are pointed in right direction.  i know i registared my domain because one of ya'lls agents did it for me.  but i got email today saying that "it looks like  you havent registered your domain yet"   so when i follow the prompts  i am told my domain is not available?   i think because i already registered it.  how do i know
