We don't have a current guide for the installation of 3.8.3, but the guide that we do have in place (for version 2.3.2) does not have a requirement for the Unix socket or database port in it. You can see the instructions in this article: Manually Installing Moodle 2.3.2. The directions for the database should be the same. you will need to check off (or add) the Unix socket. The default port for databases is 3306 (for MySQL). If you're using something different, then you should contact the live support team for more details. If you're working with a different hosting company, you will need to consult with their support team for specific answers to your questions.
