I'll blog with Wordpress/Boldgrid. On the Boldgrid Contact page, there is a place for readers to sign up for email/newsletter. Will this gather any extra info or should I replace it with one Ill use from Covertkit?

Hi! The default contact page in BoldGrid is set up to work with WPForms, which is BoldGrid's default form plugin. You would need to check the settings to see if it is already collecting the information you need, but it can be changed/reconfigured.
If you want to try out the plugin, be sure to use the BoldGrid Connect Key included on your account to unlock its premium features! If you already have a forms plugin you're comfortable working with, though, it's perfectly fine to switch it out for the one you're used to. Hope that helps!
