How to install wordpress into an existing site that's in a shared hosting plan with other sites.
First , I will say we had never had a shared hosting plan until we moved to Inmotion hosting. We had never had sub-domains before or at least I didn't realize that's what they were. If I am correct, I think they are listed as sub-domains here at Inmotion hosting. I always had separate c-panels for each domain I had.
We want to rebuild one of our sites that already exists online here but is not a Wordpress site. We have read tutorials online that refer to adding sub-domains as the way to install Wordpress. I do have 2 sites here that were Wordpress sites when we transferred here. (We transferred them ourselves) I don't want to make any wrong moves that might effect my other sites so that is why I am asking here. Could you please help me and suggest how to go about installing Wordpress for this one site. I currently have the files for this site in my ExpressionWeb. We want to experiment rebuilding this site with a Wordpress theme. So, any help would be very much appreciated.
Please feel free to move this question into the correct category if I didn't select the correct category for it.
Hello!
For creating a separate website from your cPanel with its own domain, you would want to set it up as an "Addon Domain" instead of a subdomain. We have information that explains how that works at https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/cpanel/addon-domains-in-cpanel/ (Please note, the domain must be registered and pointing to our nameservers for this to work.)
From there, you can install WordPress directly into the addon domain's document root and we have a walkthrough for that at https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/domain-names/how-to-install-wordpress-on-an-addon-domain/
The above processes may also be used if you'd like to install WordPress to a subdomain (example: subdomain.mywebsite.com)
