Spam Assassin Not working very well

Since joining Inmotion Hosting a while ago, I've been getting a LOT of spam.  I had Spam Assassin set to 5 and figured eventually (QUICKLY), it would figure it out and start killing the overwhelming majority of the garbage.

Didn't happen and eventually I created a couple global email filters, one for the "from" and one for the "subject".  Started with a half dozen, and at this point I'd guess I've got at least 100, possibly closer to 200 terms in there to block the garbage.

Tried support by email - not very successful after spending a week.  Tried the phone.  I NEVER got a rational answer from either group about HOW to get Spam Assassin to trap a WHOLE LOT MORE of the garbage WITHOUT killing things that SHOULD come through.  They told me a lot of things that have nothing to do with making Spam Assassin work - like I have to switch to IMAP from POP so I can have the stuff dumped to a folder, and on and on.

At THIS point, Spam Assassin is set to THREE, and in the last three days I've had FIVE spams come through for the "BACKxPACK", three for the "ProTablet-X", and single ones come through a several others.

In the email where I'm dumping all the stuff the global filters and Spam Assassin catch I've got 8 spam that Spam Assassin caught, SIX it didn't catch but were caught by the filters, and the dozen or so that NOTHING caught.  So, it's catching about 1/3 of the spam...

Does anybody in here have a reasonable way to make spam assassin work better - something SMARTER than changing the number and hoping it ONLY grabs garbage and doesn't trash emails that SHOULD come through?

Hello,

I'm happy to help and sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with SpamAssassin. Beyond those settings, you can try setting up SPF and DKIM in your cPanel. We have information that explains how to do that at https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/email/spf-records-domain-keys-combating-spam/
