Unable to send to AOL and Verizon addresses

Hi,

I'm getting an error message every time I try to send an email out to someone with either an AOL or Verizon address. I read about someone else who had a similar issue and the response was to check the box that says SMTP Server requires Authentication. I'm using Apple Mail and I don't see that box even in the Advanced section.

Error message:
SMTP error from remote mail server after RCPT TO::

Hello Bryu0907, Email errors can be tricky but in the case of a 550 error, that is an error code indicating an error or complaint from the receiving servers. This does not mean that you cannot change things on your end to help. It is possible it is SMTP authentication and both companies are looking for it. To set that via Macmail, you will want to go to the Outgoing server settings for the email address you are using. Once there, you will see a field named Authentication. Ensure that is set to 'Password' and set the username as the entire email address you are using, along with its password. If the issue is SMTP authentication, this will take care of it for you. Another test is to try and send an email directly from your webmail, circumventing the client. If the email passes but will not when you send from the macmail, that also indicates that there could be an issue with the client itself, its settings, or even your Internet Service Provider or the IP they assigned you.
