iWeb Publishing Error - Can't create the file site/home.html

Suddenly, when I try to publish in iWeb, I get the following error message:

Publish error:

Can't create the file "site/home.html." The disk may be damaged or full, or you must not have sufficientt access privileges

Well, I have a Mac Pro tower, loaded with plenty of space and my disk definitely isn't damaged. Go Daddy (my host) first told me it might be a firewall problem and to contact my internet provider, which I did. But they told me there were no outgoing firewalls. So I went back to go Daddy, who reset all my permissions, but I still got the same iWeb message listed above when I tried to publish. Go Daddy was able upload my files at their end as a test, which means the problem is right here with my iWeb.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hi Bill, I think Arnel had a good response, but I wanted to chime in as well. When you have an error message, that's were the focus needs to be. In this case, your error message is:
Can't create the file "site/home.html." The disk may be damaged or full, or you must not have sufficientt access privileges
The first question we need to ask is which computer is giving this error message? For example, is it your computer giving the error or the GoDaddy server? Because iWeb uses FTP to publish files, you need to ask GoDaddy that they review their FTP logs. If in their FTP logs they see this error, then their server was having a problem, and *most likely* something on their end that they can look into further for you. If they don't see any FTP errors from your IP address, then most likely the issues with something on your mac. It's all about the log files. Again, ask GoDaddy to review their FTP logs. Make sure you get someone on the phone with them that knows what they're talking about, because there's more than one way to search through FTP logs. Keep us updated please, we're interested to see what happens with this one! Thanks, - Brad

Hello Bill Karl, I'm sorry to hear of your problems with publishing using iWeb. It appears that you have hosting with another hosting provider - GoDaddy. This site is primarily for technical support with InMotion Hosting - just wanted to be clear before continuing. I can't see a hosting account with your name on it, and this also means that I cannot see your website files to more thoroughly help you with your problem. But, let's see what we can clarify... 1) When you say you are publishing in iWeb, this generally means you are publishing to a REMOTE location (not your Mac Pro tower). Publishing generally means your website files are being sent to a hosting web server - where ever that may be - generally to a server run by a hosting service. iWeb originally used to publish to an Apple service that is no longer running called MobileMe. But you can also change your publishing settings to go somewhere else 2)Do you know what you have in your publishing settings for iWeb? Determine where it's going so that you can be sure you're looking at the correct location to determine what's going on (the article link below shows how to determine your publishing settings in iWeb) 3)Your error message is important. It says that it cannot CREATE the site/home.html file. They give you a couple of possible answers, but the truth is that there are many more possibilities. You will need to speak with your hosting service support personnel to view those files and determine if your iWeb program is even changing anything when you publish. If you can determine those three things, then you will resolve your publishing problem. If you continue have problems you can also contact Apple Technical support. They can troubleshoot issue from the point of view of their software to make sure it isn't a problem on their end. Here's a reference link for iWeb publishing that we provide for our clients as well: How to Publish with iWeb Please again remember that our support articles are generally written to help with these applications, but any reference to the hosting server is specific to our systems. If you have any further questions, please contact technical support or leave a comment at the bottom of the page. Regards, Arnel C.
