Hi, I am using FileZilla to connect to my server. If I put my host (ftp.domain) in the host I get an error. but if I put the IP instead it works. Why?

I get an error if I use my host:

Status: Resolving address of ftp.gkhneisser.com

Status: Connection attempt failed with "EAI_NONAME - Neither nodename nor servname provided, or not known".

Error: Could not connect to server

But when using the IP it works.

Why is that?

I created a domain from in motion (boursonomic.com) and still my hostname not working for my FTP.

What can I do to make it work?

Hello Mia,

Thank you for contacting us about your hostname not working for FTP. Yes, Alejandro is correct, your 'A record' for your FTP domain is not pointed to InMotion.

You can have Google point the 'A record' for your FTP domain to your Shared IP address. 

Another option is to point your nameservers to InMotion hosting, you can then manage your DNS including 'A records' with us.

Your domain is pointing to the google servers, if you check here: https://whois.icann.org/en/lookup?name=gkhneisser.com you can confirm that they do not point to inmotionhosting, you have to change the dns and point them to this server, only this way you can occupy the domain instead of the ip
