Temp URL for Addon Domain - Existing Site - Different Host
Ive read/viewed the individual tutorials on the temp url | add on domain and site rebuild migration. I'd like to be sure I correctly understand the process for doing all three together.
To set up an existing site from another host (non-wp), I'll create an add-on domain but not point the URL at this stage. I would then install WP via cpanel / fantastico deluxe onto the add on domain followed by an edit to the WP-config file to have the site in development mode on my temp url. Once completed and tested - i simply code out / edit the wp-config tempt url back to the add-on domain. The site would then be live?
2 questions - (1) Am i correct that as long as I do not request that my existing domain host point my domain to inmotion - my existing site will continue to funciton completely as is? (2) to ensure privacy during the rebuild - am i correct that i can simply password protext the temp url?
2 other questions which might be better served if posted in a separate message relate to the access / method for coding 404/410 server codes for pages that i will not be migrating as well as 301 redirects for pages permanently being modified (which will be many/almost all). (Site pages are presently dynamic from a portal asp - and wish to make into WP).
