How do I move my website to a different directory?
Another newbie question. When I set up WordPress, I installed it into a directory ihqre.org/web because I thought it needed to be in a subdirectory in the domain. Now the website can only be accessed by www.ihqre.org/web rather than www.ihqre.org. I tried to find the files in the file manager hierarchy so that I could transfer them to the www.ihqre.org directory, but I couldn't find any of the html files. So my question is how do I change the program so that the website can be accessed at www.ihqre.org rather than www.ihqre.org/web? Thank you.
Thank you for your question DonIHQRE!
If your WordPress is a brand new install, you can remove the installation and then reinstall it through Softaculous.
Removing Wordpress
If you built the site already and do not want to remove the WordPress install, you can move the files through your cPanel and set the site url in the Wordpress dashboard.
Moving Wordpress to a different location
a. Navigate to the directory your WordPress was installed in. (The Main domain will be in the public_html) See this article for more information.
b. Create a folder called backups.
c. Select the files to backup (Except the folder your WordPRess is in) and copy them to the backup folder
Important! If there are any hard coded links or references to the old location, the site will have broken links. If this is the case, you may need to change the urls in the database and in your dashboard posts.
Now the wordpress will work on your domain you moved your files to. Hope this helps!
Take Care!
