Frequently Getting Database Connection Errors after InMotion Server Move for my Account

Hello,

Ever since my account (bharar5) was moved to a different server on Feb 9th (2013), I've been getting "error establishing a database connection" messages quite frequently (at least 1-2 times a day). The problem fixes itself in a few minutes but I'm concerned why this is happening.

This was never a issue before the server move. This is why I'm assuming it is related to the server move as I have made no changes from my side.

My Wordpress site URL: www.bharari.net

Thanks,
Neeraj

Hello Neeraj, and thank you for your question. I'm not sure if the server move in itself would have caused these issues for you, as the newer server you're on is much less populated and has overall less MySQL usage. Typically you can encounter a database connection error if your user is hitting its max of 30 connections at once. One thing I would strongly recommend that you do is enable a caching plugin on your WordPress site. This will help limit the overall amount of database interaction that your site has to do, and reduce the amount of connections as well. We have a guide on optimizing WordPress with W3 Total Cache plugin which is one of the more advanced WordPress caching plugins. We also have a guide on optimizing WordPress with WP Super Cache plugin which is a more simple to setup caching plugin for WordPress. There are also some other common things which can cause WordPress to use a lot of database interaction. I'd also recommend being sure to log out of WordPress admin dashboard when not in use, disable WordPress autosave, and limit or disable WordPress revisions. If you continue to experience database connectivity issues after enabling caching on your WordPress site please let us know. - Jacob
