The best way to learn is by doing. I would suggest you download the software on your PC, purchase a book online and attempt to build a test website for yourself. Then go ahead to host it and make it live. Luckily Joomla has a host of modules that would make most tasks easy to accomplish and you would not have to spend much time coding from the ground up.
Youtube has lots of free videos as well that you can view as well. Good-luck on your journey.
