We run MySQL 5.5.34 currently across most of our servers. Since we only run Linux servers, we do not have any Microsoft SQL Server instances on any of our servers.
You could attempt to convert your MS SQL database to a MySQL one. But depending on the complexity of the database this can be quite difficult as there are not any easy native ways to convert from one database format to the other.
