Opencart Paypal IPN stopped working now...

Our website worked fine until today. Suddenly we stopped receiving emails from completed orders and opencart does not show new orders, instead it only displays them in the missing orders field... I just knew we had orders because we receive the paypal emails.
Everything is the same, i already uploaded backed up versions of paypal module, and checked ipn settings as well and everything is as it should. Perhaps there was some server change that is somehow blocking the ipn from following through and complete the sale. In the last step, where the ipn would send, we get a Error 500 state..
Any ideas?
