MySQL database name requirements

Is there a requirement that database names in MySQL have to be prefixed with the username? I tried to go into PHPMyAdmin and change this, but it appears the username prefix is automatic. Is this true and/or can it be changed?

Hello rosanneh,

Thank you for your question on database prefixes. Yes, this is a requirement of the cPanel software. This is due to the shared hosting platform. With many users on the server, the possibility of two or more people having a database with the same name if high. By prefixing it with the unique username, this eliminates that possibility.
