I have a repo that I want to clone locally so I can easily manage my site. Where are the website files located and should I use root access or the CPanel account?
Thanks for the question about using GIT to get your site to a VPS. If you were to do this through SSH, you would need to do it with root access. Website files are typically in a created user account under the root of PUBLIC_HTML. In order to get to the GIT server,you will need to make a connection to that server. If you're unfamiliar with that process, we unfortunately do not provide the support to give you the steps necessary for connection process. I would recommend you use FTP and download the files then upload them into your server if you are unfamiliar with using SSH commands with the root user. Users with root access must agree to this agreement that is sent with EVERY permission of root access:
* You understand and accept that we can only provide technical support for software and services initially provided by us, and we cannot support any changes you've made to the server or software after obtaining root access. This includes installation of additional software, changes to system configuration, removal of software, or performance issues resulting from changes made on the server.
* Any time required by the system administration team to repair, troubleshoot, or restore services due to changes made (as a result of having root access) after taking root access may be billed at rate of up to $75/hr. This does not guarantee resolution of technical issues deemed outside the scope of our support.
* We cannot guarantee compatibility or performance of third party software that you may choose to install on your server.
This agreement is in place because you have FULL control of the server install when you have root, and it's easy to accidentally cause a problem if you are unfamiliar with its use.
