Best way to transfer WP site to another server

I have a WP site that I have been working on in a development folder. Now I want to transfer it to another server within Inmotion. I have used a couple of methods, including FTP but no success. I get issues with the database when i change the URL to the new domain. The WP site loses many of it's widgets, icons and some other items. Any suggestions on how I can transfer a WP site exactly the way it is to another server? Thanks for the help.
