Trouble installing and running SASS and COMPASS

After setting up SSH and successfully loggin in, I installed ruby gems sass and compass. But when I try to create a compass project, I get the following error:
-bash: compass: command not found
I've done some troubleshooting and found threads about sudo installing, and paths getting screwed up, but not sure if that's relevant to my circumstance or if I just missed something simple. I tried following the tutorial here:
https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/edu/ruby/installing-gems
so I'm not sure what I missed.

Hello, Thank you for your question regarding issues installing and running sass and compass. We are happy to help you troubleshoot further, but will need some additional information. What command are you using to create a compass project? For example are you using:
compass create project name
Thank you, John-Paul
