Customizing Gridblocks by moving media within the blocks

I am having tremendous trouble with spacing on grid blocks. I start with a template but want to move the media around, but I can't get it to move, besides messing with alignment. Even the padding doesn't offer any change. I added a row so that I could insert a custom made icon, but it is way to high in the block. How can I move it down?
