Hello! If you have a WordPress site, much of your development work would simply require a new WordPress account with administrative access. This would give a great deal of control over that WordPress site, but now your entire account or the server the site is on.

If your developer needs to access files directly, you can simply create an FTP account and provide access via FTP.  Just make sure the new FTP account is limited only to the site in question and does not provide higher level access to the rest of the files on your server. Hope that helps!

If you provide more info your unsatisfied mark, we may be able to further assist you. How much access the developer need depends on what you want them to do and how much you want to be involved.
