If I have a site and domain on Digital Ocean and I want to create a sub-domain for the virtual machine that locates on InMotion, what I need to do?

How would you rate the customer service you received?

Thanks for getting in touch with us! Here's how you can set up a subdomain on an InMotion account even if the domain itself is hosted elsewhere.

  • If the domain does not already exist on your InMotion Hosting account, add it as an addon domain.
  • Use the cPanel tools to create the subdomain you want hosted here.
  • Make sure you find the IP address of the cPanel account you created that subdomain on.
  • Now, you need to go to wherever it is you edit your DNS Zones. On InMotion, this would be the Zone Editor. Since your site is hosted elsewhere, though, you are probably using different nameservers and will need to edit your DNS records there.
  • Add an 'A Record' for your new subdomain. Make sure it is pointed to the IP address you found earlier by checking your cPanel.
  • That's all! Now you just need to wait the usual 4 to 24 hours of propagation time for the DNS changes to fully take effect.

I hope that helps and please don't hesitate to contact our 24/7 Technical Support team directly if you run into any trouble.
