Opencard customer wants to become an affiliate

hi, my question is:
an existing customer wants now become an affiliate.
does he need to register a new account as an affiliate, which means at the end he has 2 accounts, his customer account and an affiliate account?
or is it possible to give this customer somewhere in the backoffice the status of an affiliate?
and how or where will he get his affiliate-link?
