Why do add-on domains have to be set up as a subdomain of the primary domain?

I recently purchased the pro plan to host multiple websites.  I'm confused about the requirement regarding add-on domains.  When I add a new "add on" domain, the set up page requires that I also set the new domain up as a sub-domain of the primary domain.  Why is this?  The domains are not related and I can't make sense of why I would even want them set up that way.

Thanks for your help!

Hello and thanks for asking. The subdomain is required for the internal cPanel system. For other alternatives, you should contact cPanel directly or upgrade to VPS to create different cPanel accounts.
