Multiple Website/Reseller Best Practices

We plan to host multiple customer websites under our account. I am curious what is considered best practice for this type of usage. I was planning on having each site hosted under the same hosting account using an Addon Domain, but the separation of sites isn't quite what I was hoping for.

When I added a new addon domain, I also got a subdomain added, which is undesirable. Our primary domain for this account is example1.com, and a subdomain was added for example2.example1.com when I added the example2.com addon domain.

I also do not like that I can get to the other addon domain root directories from the primary domain, such as http://example1.com/example2.com/.

For hosting multiple sites, is it best to go with individual hosting plans, or am I just not using the addon domain feature correctly?

Hi Whirled, Thanks for posting your questions. I'm more than happy to assist you today. In a shared hosting environment, cPanel creates folders for your add-on domains. You can actually change the root for each subdomain to be at the same level as the primary public_html. This will keep visitors from accessing your add-on domains from your primary domain. In a shared environment, this is your only option, since you will only have one cPanel account. If you want separate cPanel accounts for each domain, you'll need to upgrade your account to a VPS or higher. VPS and dedicated servers will allow you to have multiple cPanel accounts independent from one another. If you are interested in a dedicated server, you can read more about why we are one of the best hosting companies. If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
