MSOffice 2012 blocking downloads

I have links to some docx files for users to download. They run into a message that says "Access to this web server is disabled by default because it is controlled by basic authentication and does not use SSL."

The Microsoft Online Support Center gives this information: "To resolve this problem, the server administrator should enable SSL encryption on the web server (recommended). By default, Office 2010 applications can access and download files from a web server that uses Basic authentication only over an SSL connection."

I tried to use a redirect to the secure server url for this folder (which is password protected) but the documents are not showing up on an https url.

How can I solve this problem?

Hi scsbc, Thanks for posting your question. I'm sorry you're having trouble with Office documents on your website. I'm more than happy to help you. I've tested your error out and I'm unable to replicate it. I found the docx file called "Template_with_instructions.docx" and copied it to the /public_html folder. I was able to download the file using the same file path like this: http://scsbc.net/Template_with_instructions.docx The file downloaded fine via Internet Explorer as well as Google Chrome. How can I replicate this error? Since Microsoft says you have to access it over HTTPS, you should be able to use the shared SSL to do so. Here's the path to the file above via HTTPS: https://secure80.inmotionhosting.com/~scsbcn5/Template_with_instructions.docx Using this path taking advantage of the shared SSL, it downloaded fine as well. You might try linking to the documents using the same URL structure as I did above. If you need further assistance please feel free to contact us. Thanks! Tim S
