Miscommunication over SSL certificate type?
Hi,
I recently bought an SSL certificate, but may have gotten the wrong type. Not sure, though. I want to check, and make sure that if I need to get another certificate, I get the right one.
Here was my original support question, at https://www.inmotionhosting.com/support/community-support/ssl/wildcard-setup :

My InMotion main domain in mathiesons.com. I registered *********.se at GoDaddy, and just changed the name servers to ns.inmotionhosting.com.
I'd like to run *********.se on my InMotion VPS, with a wildcard SSL certificate (so that the cert covers examples. *********.se, etc.).
Do I use cPanel to make an addon domain for *********.se? That creates a directory under my public_html, as far as I understand. Or should I do something else?

Note that in the second paragraph, I asked about getting a wildcard certificate.
Here was the response:

Thank you for your question. The 2 main requirements are as follows:
Each subdomain needs to be on its own cPanel account
Each of the cPanel accounts that will be using the SSL cert need a dedicated ip
If you have any further questions, feel free to post them below.
--- END CUT SCREEN HERE ---
Nothing in the response about wildcards.
I requested a dedicated IP, made a cPanel account, and bought a certificate through InMotion. (BTW, there's a link "Learn more" on the first page of the certificate purchase wizard that opens an empty modal dialog box. I took a screenshot, but can't see a way to attach it here.)
I tried to set up an https subdomain, but couldn't. Poking around a bit, it looks like InMotion does not sell wildcard certificates. So, I bought the wrong certificate type. I should have bought it from a third-party vendor.
Is that correct?
What are my options now? Can I "return" the existing certificate for a refund, or am I stuck with it?
Do you recommend any particular vendor for wildcard certificates?
Thanks,
Kieran
